Welcome to the Ask for a Skinny Podcast with a guest. I'm proud to present Peter Vigilant. Peter, welcome to the show. Please tell us more about yourself. What is your story?
SPEAKER_01Thank you, Peter. Thank you for having me here. It's a pleasure. So my story is uh completely different. Uh I'm a massage therapist, and now I'm also an author. I just recently wrote a book, and uh it's called Called by the Universe. So basically, my story is like this. I come from Slovenia, like you. And uh my growing up was a bit different. I mean, um I was bullied in school, I was taught certain things that you know you go to school and you repeat certain things, and then at the end you find out that those things they're not serving you. That's not you, right? You follow other people's dreams, you follow other people's beliefs, but that's not who you are, you know. And end of the day, you have to follow your heart. So I came to the conclusion that uh I have to be myself. And uh during the during my journey, I discovered I want to be a massage therapist to help people, to serve people. First time it helped with me when I was in school, and I felt like a burnout. It was so much stress, so much exams. And then a friend of mine said to me, Why don't you go to sauna and just relax, get this tension out? So I thought, okay, let's do it. So I did it. And then next hour later, I just felt so amazing. I just felt so powerful. And it was just so I don't know, I just felt so different. I thought, to have this feeling from somebody else, this energy, and then you give it to somebody else, it's just a gift. So I thought, that's me. I want to do this. That's that's me. And I thought, right, and during the schooling, and I was doing other stuff, you know, like management and stuff, you know, like usual. Uh I thought, right, when this is over, because I felt burnout because of certain things. There was a deadline, you know, writing diplomas and stuff. I felt burnout, and I thought, this isn't me. I don't want, I don't want to do this. So I said, right, I'll do whatever it takes. I want to be a message therapist. So I did. I got the qualification, and uh, yeah. And then of course during my journey, um, I have to deal with myself who I really am, uh, which I'm a lovely, beautiful soul, no judgment. Every every everybody up here, they're all beautiful, they're all lovely. It's just their mindsets, their paradigms, you know, their limiting beliefs are different. You see? So we're all divine, beautiful souls. So anyway, on my journey, uh, I discovered who I am, and of course, during the experience and everything I experienced, uh I had to move. I had to move to the UK. Uh a friend helped me. So in there, I uh I found my new job. And in there, uh I met new people. So everything was just getting so and so aligned, which is perfect. But then 2017 I met somebody and he was my soulmate. And then of course, 2024 uh he had a stroke, and a month later he um sadly passed. And I was there with him till the last minute, and I saw how how the soul leaves the body. I saw the last breath. And um yeah. Um it's powerful. When you see that experience, it it just changes you, and you start looking at the life completely different. You you start doing things that really matter in life, right? It it really you feel those things because they align with you, you know. And then anything that is distracting you, anything that's negative, you just remove on the side and just remove it. That's not you. So I focused. And on his deathbed, I said, I promise I'm gonna write this book and I'm gonna dedicate it to you. And I didn't know how I'm gonna do this. I didn't know how I'm gonna finish it. I didn't know nothing. I just said, I decided, and I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna make you remember it. It doesn't matter how what it takes. I don't mean I don't I don't care. I'll do it. I promise you. I don't know when it's gonna be finished. No, so during this journey, uh everything was happening, it was just incredible. I mean, you read the story, so you know. You saw the events, how it was, you know, as soon as you decide, things were showing up to me. It was just amazing. But one thing I have to say, and uh completely gratitude to this is Napoleon Hill Institute, because a month before all this was happening, the stroke and you know the last breath, I joined the self- uh self-discipline camp uh run by Napoleon Hill Institute. And that really helped me with the grief. It really helped me, you know, to deal with uh everything. And uh, I mean, most of the people will just go like you know, like the usual programs, right? You go, oh, you lost your job. Who what are you gonna do now, right? And um, well, I followed my heart. And of course, with the Napoleon Hill principles, uh, it's all about love, you know, uh gratitudes. Uh it's all about being your true self, who you really are, who you're meant to be, right? What what are you here for? You know, what why are you getting up every day? What is your reason? What is your purpose, right? You have to have that burning desire inside of you, that definite, definite chief aim in life, you see. And because of that, following, you know, that would help me. Because the only sacred space for me when I was dealing with grief, uh it was the it was in the camp. And every five every time in the morning I woke up, you know, half past five in the morning, an hour away from other people, and I was doing the gratitudes, I was writing about the gratitudes, they're in the book, anyways. Uh, I was doing about the goals, what I want to achieve. I keep saying, I want to I want to finish, I want to write the book. But of course, you have to take action, then you can't just write the book, right, and say, Oh, please, you know, divine universe, you know, uh, it doesn't work like that. You have to take action. But if you have limiting beliefs in your head, uh, it's not gonna happen. You have to persist, you have to have all the suggestion, you have to talk, talk to yourself, you have to love yourself, right? It's so much stuff you can do. Problem is, well, you know how the world works. There's a lot of outside circumstances, and you know, sadly the outside circumstances took my soulmate away. And I said, right, this is my time now. This is my time. I'm gonna shine, and no matter what, I'm just gonna follow the path. You know, I cannot see because I know that I trust the worst, you know, I I trust myself. Because everybody's achievable, everybody can achieve all this stuff. It's anything is possible. There's no limit. The point is, there's no limit, and I'm the proof. I got the book. It's only limit it is it's what you put in your head.
SPEAKER_00Amazing. I would like to discuss a bit more about uh you mentioned other people's dreams and other people's beliefs. How how did um how determinantal is that? How much does this um determine our fate if we don't uh free ourselves from societal induced beliefs and how hard it is or it was for you? Because I know for me it was incredibly hard. I I had so many expectations from my surrounding, uh what they expect of me from my family, and of course, then I have internalized all this stuff that does not work for me. And um how how did you free yourself from this limiting belief? What what was the key thing that said, okay, this is not who I am, I want to do something different?
SPEAKER_01Well, the first thing what it happened is uh you're in school, right? You're in, I don't know, grade school, and they ask you a question. They ask you a question like uh what who you want to be when you grow up, right? And of course you don't know who you want to be. You know, I didn't know. I just thought, you know, some people say, Oh, I want to be a hairdresser, I want to be a footballer, oh, I want to be a doctor like my mom or dad. And I just thought, I want to be a writer. I thought, you know, just I wasn't following really, to be honest. And of course, the the teacher says, um, he said they said to me in a you know a negative way, he said, uh, uh, who do you think you are? You know, you can't you a writer? Nah, that's never gonna happen. And you get these limiting beliefs, right? And then you go through life, you know, because I never believed I'm gonna write the book. I mean, I was doing notes. I was writing, I was studying, I was doing the you know, the Napoleon Hill, Bob Proctor, the secret, all this spiritual stuff, you know, the personal development stuff. And I was writing it down just on a piece of paper and just have it like notes, you know, like you know, it's like the mind, right? It's anything but the mind, you know. I mean, I always say to people like, your mind is the garden, your thoughts are the seeds, you can grow flowers, so you can grow weeds. Yep, you you're in charge, you know. The mind is the master, is the master who controls everything. As long as you have your mind positive, anything is anything can happen. That's what Napoleon Hill said also, that's the highest of the riches. BMA all the way, as Karen would say. By the way, Karen, uh, she helped me with the book, Karen Weaver, because she's very, you know, very, very good with you, because you had her on your podcast, and she's absolutely amazing. And Philippa, she helped me. Philippa Vincent Connolly, she helped me finish the book. So without them, and Napoleon Hill, you know, and I mean, yeah, it's just amazing. And also, uh, speak about uh the dreams and wishes, just I want to say this and clarify this. Um, yeah, when I told my dad, I said, uh, I want to be a qualified master. I was so excited, you know, so lovely. And then dad says, uh, you're not gonna achieve much money. Uh, you know, it's better to be a manager, you know, work in the office, you get more money. And I said to dad, I said, Um, this isn't me. I mean, I'd rather be happy with less money than be unhappy with more money and more responsibilities and you know all this, which isn't me. And the soul is crying to, you know, to be yourself. I mean, whatever's your desire, whatever you want to do, just do it. And, you know, everything will be aligned. You just have to decide. That's that's the whole point. You get obstacles, of course. You get obstacles. That's that's life, isn't it? Life happens. Life just happens, and you just deal with it. But have your mindset positive, right? Eliminate any any negativity, right? Any people say, Oh, I hate this, oh, I hate that. Just say, uh, hate is a very strong word, right? You don't say hate, you say, I'm not a great lover of that. So you see how that resonates rather than saying, oh, I hate this, oh I hate this happened to me. And people keep getting this, right? Because they keep attracting it. Oh, I haven't got any money in my bank account. You know, it's all you keep saying it. Why you why you don't have? You have to say, you know, if you don't see it, just say what you have. You know, it's all in the mind. It's all the words, what you say. I mean, your words shape your reality. I mean, you can get whatever you want, you know. You just have to believe. But if you're gonna say something like, you know, like uh, oh, I believe I have this and that, but if you don't believe it at the background, you're not gonna get it. It's not gonna happen. You have to believe, you have to persist, you have to do goals, you have to have burning desire. You know, that's that's what it's all about, you know.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I I have a question that I ask uh a lot of my guests, and I'll ask you as well. Is it enough to um read a book about personal development, or do you need a coach? You you said something uh in the line of camp for self-discipline from Napoleon Hill. Um I know Napoleon Hill is a famous author, but uh was there a coach that helped you? You you mentioned uh two lovely ladies that have uh helped you with the book, but uh for self-development, did you use uh or are you still using coaches or are you trying to study it in the books, or do you prefer um like weekend uh seminars or uh workshops?
SPEAKER_01Yes, uh I'm still part of uh Napoleon Hill since now, I mean since 2024, and until now, yes. So I had Philippa this morning uh as a self-disciplined camp, of course. And then I had Karen last night because she's in Australian division, so it's it's like you know, a bit late. But I thought uh one hour before you go to bed, and you just do that thing, that's uh it matters a lot. Whatever you do, the last hour before you go to bed, it matters a lot because it's gonna affect your mindset. And um, yeah, so that's what I do. Um in the evening I had Karen Weaver with the camp because she runs it, she's a coach, and then in the morning at Philippa, you know, and so it's like, yeah, lovely. So I'm ahead of everybody an hour while everybody or the world is still asleep. So I'm ahead of it, you see. And that's the power because you can achieve anything. And it's easier because we start with gratitude and the meditation. And when you set the uh set your mind in the meditation, you just focus on this peace and calm, right? Everything's just peace and calm. And your thoughts and mind just comes to you. It's just flowing, you know, you know how the thoughts are. And it gets you in that state of relaxation. And anything can come to you. You can get ideas, you can get anything, really. You know, you can think about oh, what I'm gonna do today. Um, you know, anything. Anything is possible. There's no limit. But that's what I do. That's just my journey. That's you know, other people's journeys, you know, they're theirs. But you know, that's what I do. I'm just saying.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Let's talk a bit about your book. Uh, I read your book uh almost in one go.
SPEAKER_01Wow, thank you.
SPEAKER_00It it it's just uh it it pulls you. The story is really good out. Uh you're an amazing writer. I I told you that uh before we started the recording. And uh it's it's uh fairly the story is amazing and how you interpret it because it's it's it's not just um whining what happened to you and stuff like that, but it's it's more the the lessons what you have learned and how you have grown from your experience. These are uh I think the core of your book, and I believe everyone should uh read the book for just for for that to see uh this uh resilience and how you grow from your experience. Can you can you explain a bit more? Uh you said that uh that was uh the promise on a dead bat to to your friend, and now you have uh to make it happen, and it's a great book. Uh how you feel about it? Can you tell us a bit more about experience? And I had a couple of uh guys here that uh propose book as part of a therapy or part of a midlife crisis, how to explain to yourself and of course to others what is happening to you. Would you say that uh book uh uh has helped you uh go through your midlife crisis and become a better person on the other end? Can you tell us a bit more about the book?
SPEAKER_01That's a brilliant question. Thank you for that. Uh yes, uh definitely. I mean, as you as I say, you read the book, so you know that uh I lost three anchors of life. So basically, I lost my soulmate, I lost his house, and I lost my job. So to deal with that, it it wasn't it wasn't easy. But there was a community which helped me before, you know, not just Napoleon Hill. There's people. There's a community of people, my massage clients. And they're more than just clients, they're family. I created people, you know, they want to be around me, they want to be surrounded, you know, with the energy or with the help, especially with massage, because with the massage, you heal, you know, you you heal, and that's just amazing. People feel that energy, right? And um, yes, but the main thing is I turn grief into gratitude. I was really, I said, I want to be I want I'm gonna be grateful. And I was, and I'm I'm still grateful, I'm always grateful because because when you're grateful, magical things can happen. Even if you don't see it, if you don't believe it. But yeah, I mean it comes back to you, it multiplies. And also when you say thank you, um, it's already done. Whatever you want, just say thank you, it's already done. And also, uh as I say, when you're in this journey, right, you get obstacles. Sometimes you have to fail to succeed, right? It's just it's just that's what it is. That's life. It's the game of life. You have to fail to succeed. And then that's what happened to me. You know, I had to fail, had these negative, you know, um experiences. But eventually, I start growing. I I kept moving. I started asking questions. Um, you know, I had obstacles saying, like, for example, oh, you lost your job, oh, what are you gonna do now? You're not gonna survive just doing massages, you know. Oh, and I thought, right, I'm gonna protect my peace, because that's more important than anything. Keep yourself in solitude. Even if you have to go, I don't know, in a sacred space, and just be with yourself. You have to love yourself so other people can love you. It's it's that simple. So um, yeah, you have to protect your peace. And anything that doesn't serve you, you have to let it go. Because once you let it go, could be things. I mean, you know, when I lost his house, those things, and I was giving away. And as you know, you you read it, uh, I was giving away to people, um, to somebody who was there for me, and it is so powerful. Or the right people were there. That was just amazing. I couldn't believe it. I thought I have to share this with people. And for that reason, I gave him a lot of you know, donations from clothing, and he sent it to, you know, and it's just it was this good feeling. And by letting go of things, you get you make space for new to come in. And that's the power. And then you don't feel like that, you know, it's you feel free. You feel free, and that's powerful. And yeah, take action. You know, you you lost your job, you know, and there's you know, you ask people, you just ask. And you know what can I say? If they say no, just say next, you know, no big deal. Just go next. At least you ask. And out of you know, I say no only out of ten, one of them is gonna say yes.
SPEAKER_00Amazing. Uh Peter, thank you for all these insights. Before I let you go, uh, I would like you to um tell us where we can uh buy your book and um where can we get in touch with you.
SPEAKER_01Yes, you can get the book as I say called by the universe, Peter Vigilant. You can get on Amazon basically. You just go on Amazon and just type called by the universe, Peter Vigilant. And um you can also uh send an email on pizza.vigilant123 at gmail.com.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I will include that in the description below. Uh Peter, thank you again. Thank you for being my guest tonight.
SPEAKER_01Thank you. Pleasure.
